The Adirondack research site in Lewis, New York is a private facility centered around a former Cold War-era missile silo built in the 1960s as part of the nation’s strategic defense infrastructure. Today, the property operates as a controlled research and training site and has remained active in its current role since 2017. This is not a new large-scale development, but the continued use and maintenance of an existing property with longstanding infrastructure already in place.
Unconventional Concepts, Inc. (UCI) operates the property and has invested in maintaining the site, improving infrastructure, and responsibly managing the surrounding land. The company participates in New York’s 480-a forest management program, which supports long-term forest health, conservation practices, and responsible land management throughout the property.
The site has also contributed to preserving regional Cold War history through donations and support for local museums and historical resources, including the donation of a launch control console to the Plattsburgh Air Force Base Museum.
The project uses existing structures and previously cleared areas rather than expanding into undeveloped land. Operations are conducted within existing regulations and environmental requirements while maintaining respect for the surrounding Adirondack community and environment.

The ADK Material Research and Development Site has contributed to the surrounding region through property restoration, local investment, training support, and collaboration with public agencies and community organizations.
